Did a practice run for some Memorial Day cupcakes using a souped up Pillsbury Stars & Stripes cake mix & Cake Doctor recipe, nice & moist cake:
Combine all ingredients in mixing bowl and mix for about 2 minutes. Pour 1/4C of batter into tins and bake at 350F for 16-20 minutes.
Have to be honest here, I had the Hubs pick up some canned frosting <gasp> as this little critter here:
ate a dozen cupcakes and I didn't want to make frosting for just a few cupcakes. Also, made some stars for the kids:
Love the little Red, White & Blue stars I found (and so much more) at the Vanilla Bean.
What are your plans for the upcoming Holiday weekend?
Love the picture of Dexter for this layout lift from Week 7 of Details. Lots of techniques from the previous weeks - stitching with thread and without around the edges, sanding edges of photo, layering and inking, curling & tearing edges.
Starting to cool down a bit so I'm off to bake some cupcakes with the Holiday weekend in mind.
Check back tomorrow!
Struggled with this layout for Week 4 of Dimensional Details. It's actually the 2nd attempt at inking the background - I don't think I'm built for that kind of pressure. Just a simple layout for some of my favorite Tulip pictures inspired by Picture Spring.
Today we had Aidan's Music Concert at school. He was thrilled:
It's 86 degrees today & it seemed they had just came in from recess judging from the red faces & sweaty hair. Maybe it was just my camera that got the look because he did eventually get into it:
And while I'm quite aware of girls & their secrets, it surprised me that boys have theirs too:
Hope you had a great weekend!
We are in a heatwave here - but I'm not complaining...yet. :)
Decided to play along with the posts I've been seeing on other blogs like Maya's, Mel's, Sharyn's to go to your 8th picture folder & post the 8th photo and found this picture from 2005 at the Betty Brinn Children's Museum during Halloween.
It's hard to believe how much has changed in just 5 years. Then just a over a month from turning 5, one more year before Kindergarten - now 9 and finishing 3rd grade & reading, doing fractions and writing in cursive. Then watching Blues Clues & loving Disney Princesses. (She's dressed as Tinkerbell) Now can be found reading a book versus watching TV or playing Animal Crossing on the Wii or DS.
One thing that hasn't changed - that girl can still talk!
This weekend the kids are "working" the Rummage Sale at Grandma's then Saturday night hoping to hit the Drive-In and see the latest Shrek & Iron Man 2.
What are your plans for the weekend? Have a good one!
Had a wicked chocolate craving so decided what else...time to bake some cupcakes! Since I was going for lots of chocolate components I decided to use a doctored up mix from The Cake Doctor recipe book:
Preheat oven to 350F. Beat all ingredients together in mixer until well blended. Fill each muffin tin with 1/2 C of batter. Bake until cupcake springs back when lightly touched - about 19-22 minutes.
I used this pan so I could fill with Ganache but you can also cut & scoop out centers.
Chocolate Cinnamon Ganache Filling
Pour chocolate chips into a metal bowl and shake some cinnamon over them. Heat cream just to boiling point and pour over chocolate chips, add vanilla and stir with heat-resistant spoon until melted. Let sit for about 40 minutes.
Of course need to add a picture yet - it's a group shot of all 20+ Brownies so left off til after blogged.
Now I'm craving some chocolate. Thinking in form of cupcakes. Check back tomorrow! :)
We are finally getting some beautiful temps & sunshine - so good for the soul!
Hope you're having a Sunshiney day too!
Trying to catch up on some classes, for this one I'm counting it as something from 2 of them: Dimensional Details & Texuality - putting title in a circle. I lifted the layout from Details "Learn It" section focusing on Titles, which also included something we learned from focusing on Photos - to sand the edges. A little scary and I got some scratches where I didn't really want them but letting it go. :)
Didn't have any paper that matched the Heidi Swapp "World Traveler" background paper so created my own with some cardstock & an "Old World Map" background stamp - and then pretty much covered it up, lol.
Hope you had a nice weekend!
Our Brownie is now a Junior Girl Scout but we decided to go see Shrek at the Drive-In with Iron Man 2 next weekend instead - hopefully the weather will be nicer by then too.
Off to work on a layout from Week 5, catching up!
